Hyssongs Biography

The Hyssongs are a family that has been called by God to share the message of Jesus Christ through the powerful medium of music.  Dell, Susan and Richard have a commitment and love for the Lord and each other that is unmistakable.  Their family vocal harmony, humor and brass instruments (trumpet and trombone) have been encouraging and blessing people wherever they have appeared.  Singing gospel music throughout the US and Canada, they have sung in churches, auditoriums, gospel singing cruises and are frequently featured on television and radio.

Dell is ordained, has a masters degree in ministry, and served as a senior pastor for over 25 years before being called into this full-time music ministry.  People always enjoy his deep, rich baritone voice and along with his heart for ministry, quick wit, and likable style, he encourages and motivates people wherever he goes.

Dell is also a contributing writer for the Christian Voice Magazine and his article, “Joy for the Journey,” can be read each month.  In the February 2008 issue of the magazine, their song, “Tell Me the Story Again,” reached 30 on the Southern Gospel Top 100.  The song charted for nine months.

Susan sings alto for the trio.  She studied music in Bible college and is also a pianist and organist.  Susan and Dell met in college and have been married for over 30 years.  In addition to her musical responsibilities, she enjoys meeting people and ministering to ladies.

Richard is a talented young man who sings tenor and plays the trombone.  He had the honor of singing in Carnegie Hall at the age of 15.  In October 2005, Richard was married to Kelly Barron who is now a part of the full-time ministry.  It has often been said that Richard has never met anyone he doesn’t know.  His singing, trombone playing and personality have delighted audiences of all ages.  Richard is writing a monthly article in the Gospel Music news entitled, “Southern Gospel Music the Next Generation”.

The Hyssongs began their musical journey as a family trio when Richard was only 13 years old.  In 2001, they followed God’s leading and stepped out by faith in this full-time ministry.  They record on the Sanctuary Label at the Chapel Valley Studio in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee.  God has truly blessed their ministry as they continue to sing and praise the wonderful name of our Lord and Savior.
